that have no hope … For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the Archangel and the trump of God and the dead in Christ shall rise first.’ 1 Thessalonians 4:13,16. ‘Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before Him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about Him. He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that He may judge His people. Gather My saints together unto Me; those that have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice.’ Psalm 50:3-5.
Those who are resurrected to life will hear His voice, and they will come forth from the graves.

Those who have had accidents and tragedies in explosions or been lost in war, will come forth from the dust at the sound of His life-giving voice. The Good Shepherd will not lose one of His faithful sheep. They will know His voice and respond for they had followed Him before they were laid to rest.

The resurrection will happen at the Second Coming of Jesus. Jesus said to His sorrowing disciples when they realised that He was leaving them to return to heaven – ‘Let not your heart be troubled, ye believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you and, if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto Myself that where I am, there ye may be also.’ John 14:1-3.

We do not go to those places in heaven at the time when we die, but the places are nonetheless prepared for us. Jesus has promised that His return is especially for the purpose of taking us there. That will be the joyful time when He can present all His redeemed brothers and sisters to His Father. They will, by the power of the Gospel promises, have overcome every sin in their lives in their desire to be like Him. ‘Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever, Amen.’ Jude vv. 24-25.
We do not know the exact time of His coming. ‘But of that day and hour knoweth no man, not the angels of heaven, but My Father only.’ Matthew 24:36.
We have been given signs that will show us when it is near. These are very easily recognised by those who follow the news regularly –

earthquakes, disease, wars and rumours of war, fear in people’s hearts, perplexities of nations, disobedient children, proud people, people who do not keep their word, fierce people, those who lack natural affection, or those that despise the ones who are attempting to live good lives. It is when ALL these are happening together that we shall know that His coming and the resurrection are near. Which of these is not to be found in today’s paper? They are all happening already; therefore this long-promised event is very close. ‘When ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.’ Matthew 24:33.

What will it be like when Jesus comes?
It will be a glorious event that no one can miss. It is mentioned in almost every book in the New Testament. All the writers had this as their Blessed Hope. They longed to see Jesus come in glory. Revelation 1:7 tells us ‘Behold He cometh with clouds and every eye shall see Him.’
