yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.

When John saw an angel, this was his reaction |
Revelation 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not. I am thy fellow servant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

The angel would not allow John to worship him for he said they were both servants of God in their different ways, and with different orders carrying the message of Jesus. The Bible tells us that angels have another special purpose – to help those on earth who doing the will of God. |
Hebrews 1:13 But to which of the angels said He at any time, Sit on My right hand, until I make Thine enemies Thy footstool? Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

Here is a touching example of how an angel cared for Elijah.
Elijah had done mighty things for the Lord on Mount Carmel, but then he heard the threat of Queen Jezebel against his life and fled. After travelling many miles, he became so depressed that he crawled under a shrub and lay down to sleep. But God was watching over him and sent an angel to comfort him. |
1 Kings 19:3-7. He arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there. But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat. And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again. And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.

Angels in their power and glory can have a terrifying effect on human beings. When Jesus was resurrected from the dead an angel rolled back the stone from the entrance of his tomb. Here is a description of that angel. |
Matthew 28:2-4. And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.

Ezekiel had the privilege of seeing the angels in heaven in a vision. There are ten thousand times ten thousand of them and thousands of thousands. The glory when they are all together would be more than sinful human beings could stand. Ezekiel tells us what it was like when many of them flew up together. |
 |
Ezekiel 1:24 And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of great waters.

When Jesus comes back the second time, He will come in power and great glory and a brightness that
